Objective

The Planning and Zoning Commission is a statutory committee comprised of five regular members and four alternate members. Predominantly an advisory committee to the City Council, it hears requests for Planned Developments, Specific Use Permits, amendments to the Zoning Ordinance, and platting requests. The Commission's decision is then forwarded to the City Council for final action.

Make a Request

The Planning and Zoning Commission holds public hearings to consider rezoning requests, replat requests (involving 4 or more lots) and amendments to the University Park Zoning Ordinance.

All requests to be heard by the Commission must be accompanied by the following:

Once the application and submittal has been determined to be in accordance with City requirements, the request will be placed on the next available Planning and Zoning agenda and an advertisement of public hearing will be made. Ten (10) printed copies of the approved application submittal, along with an electronic version of any presentation items must be received by the Community Development Department by noon on the Monday that is eight (8) days prior to the Planning and Zoning meeting at which the case will be heard. For printed copies, please be sure that any sheets containing plans are at least 11x17 inches for readability.

After the Planning and Zoning Commission has made a recommendation the request moves on to City Council where a second public hearing is opened before a final determination is made. Applications must be received at least 30 days prior to the meeting date. For more information about submittal requirements and deadlines, contact Community Development at 214-987-5411.
