Public Information Request

Pursuant to the Texas Public Information Act (PIA), the University Park Police Department will make all records "related solely to law enforcement" available to the public.

Making Requests

The University Park Police Records Division is solely responsible for maintaining all records related solely to law enforcement subject to production under the PIA. The University Park Police Department Records Division is open to the public from 8 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday, and closed on weekends and City of University Park holidays.

All requests submitted under the PIA must be in writing and can be made as follows:

All requests must include:

  1. Your name
  2. Your mailing address or email address
  3. Your phone number
  4. A list / description of the records you need, preferably with dates. The more accurate and specific you can be, the faster the records can be located.

Response to Requests

The UPPD Police Records Division will review all written requests for public records and respond to the requestor within 10 business days. In response to a request, the UPPD Police Records Division may:

  • Release the applicable information;
  • Inform the requestor if the information cannot be provided promptly and set a date/time to provide it within a reasonable time;
  • Request a ruling from the Texas Office of Attorney General Office regarding any information the University Park Police Department wishes to withhold or believes must be withheld ad send a copy of the request for ruling; or
  • Provide the requestor a redacted copy or otherwise segregate public information from information that may be withheld due to current laws.

Types of Request

Accident Reports

Accident reports can be retrieved by completing the Accident Report Request Form (PDF) and emailing it to Police Records between the hours of 8 am to 5 pm. Monday through Friday. The cost for the report is $2. Copies are available within 10 business days of a request and will be emailed back to the requestor. If you prefer to go online to retrieve an Accident Report, please access the TXDOT website. TXDOT will charge you a small fee for this service. Please include 2 of the following:

  • Driver or Passenger involved
  • Employer of the Driver
  • Owner of the vehicle/property damage
  • The insurance company of the vehicle or person involved
  • Pedestrian
  • Date of the accident
  • Location of the accident

Event Reports

Event reports are generated for accidents that have less than $1,000 worth of damage and / or the parties agree to exchange information. To obtain a copy of the report, the request can be emailed to Police Records or faxed to 214-987-5376. Copies are available within 10 business days of a request and will be emailed back to the requestor. There is no charge for the report. Please include 2 of the following:

  • Driver or Passenger involved
  • Employer of the Driver
  • Owner of the vehicle/property damage
  • The insurance company of the vehicle or person involved
  • Pedestrian
  • Date of the accident
  • Location of the accident

Offense & Incident Reports

Offense or incident reports can be retrieved by completing a Public Information Request Form (PDF) and emailing it to Police Records between the hours of 8 am to 5 pm. Monday through Friday. There is no charge for the report. Copies are available within 10 business days of a request and will be emailed back to the requestor. Some information may be limited depending upon police investigation.

Stolen Property / Damage Property Reports (For Insurance Purposes)

To obtain a copy of the report, send an email to Police Records. Please provide any information that you have (for example date of loss, the victim of a loss, and location). There is no fee for this type of report.

Texas Attorney General's Office Request

Requests for criminal offenses involving sexual assaults, juvenile offenders, and active criminal investigations will be forwarded to the City Attorney, who will then send the requested documents to the Open Records Division of the Texas Attorney General's Office for a determination as to whether the documents can be released. This process takes up to 45 days.
