UP Public Library expands resources with charitable grant

Home Posted on March 06, 2025

The University Park Public Library (UPPL) has been awarded a generous $41,000 grant from the W. Maxwell Thomas, M.D. Charitable Trust to enhance its collection and services, with a focus on supporting learning disabilities, public education, and community enrichment.

With this funding, the library is introducing new resources designed to support children, parents, educators, and lifelong learners. Among the key initiatives are:

  • Dyslexia and Literacy Support: The grant will fund Dyslexia Resource Kits, Baby at Home Storytime Kits, and screen free audio players—audiobook devices designed for young children and struggling readers.
  • Enhanced Learning Tools: UPPL will add interactive Penworthy STEAM To Go Kits, an additional AWE Learning Station for digital literacy, and an expanded OverDrive collection of children's e-books and audiobooks.
  • Community Engagement: The grant supports author visits, new books for all ages, and a Creativebug subscription for on-demand arts and crafts classes.
  • Flexible Library Spaces: A mobile shelving unit will allow the library to reconfigure its space for various programs and activities.

These additions reinforce UPPL’s role as a vital hub for learning and creativity, ensuring that every community member has access to valuable educational resources.
