[ARCHIVED] Storm Recovery Updates

severe weather

Power outage update from Oncor - May 31 at 3 p.m.

Waves of storms that brought heavy rains, winds, and flooding Thursday and early today have created additional power outages in north-central Texas and delayed our overall restoration efforts. There are currently 609 outages in University Park. Crews are estimating that most customers should be restored by this evening.

Harder-hit areas, including the communities of North Dallas, East Dallas and Mesquite are expected to be restored Saturday

Please keep these safety tips in mind during and immediately following severe storms:

  • If you see a downed power line, leave the area and call 9-1-1. In addition to the downed line potentially being electrified, anything touching the power line, such as a tree branch, could also be electrified. Keep pets, children and others away from the area.
  • Do not attempt to remove debris and tree limbs from areas near power lines. The debris may be concealing a live wire or downed power line.
  • Use caution when traveling on the roadways, especially in areas with heavy debris and streetlights without power.
  • If you are experiencing and emergency event, call 911 immediately.

To report a power outage or to check the status of an outage, view the outage map, download the MyOncor app, text OUT to 66267, or call 888.313.4747.

Revised sanitation schedule

Sanitation collection will resume on Wednesday, May 29.

-North of Lovers: Garbage and recycling will be collected on Wednesday (5/29) and Friday (5/31)

-South of Lovers: Garbage and recycling will be collected on Thursday (5/30)

-Recycling in the northeast quadrant of the City (Thackery to the east city limit, Lovers to Northwest Highway) will be collected on Saturday (6/1)

Because of the extensive tree damage caused by yesterday's severe storms, the debris removal fee will be waived through Friday, June 7. Please place your storm debris and tree limbs in the parkway (grass area between the street and the sidewalk) for pickup.

Holmes Aquatic Center and UP Public Library now open!

Power has been restored at the Holmes Aquatic Center and the University Park Public Library and both facilities are open for regular hours.

Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins issues disaster declaration

Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins issued a disaster declaration around 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 28 as a result of the damage from the early morning severe storms. It is estimated that this is likely a multi-day outage event due to the storm area coverage and threat for additional severe weather.

Safety tips:

  • At this time, keep kids inside as it is not safe to be playing outside around downed power lines.
  • Don't move debris yet as there could be hidden downed power lines that are still energized.
