About University Park
University Park, a predominantly residential community of more than 25,000 residents, is located approximately five miles north of downtown Dallas, Texas. The City is the home of Southern Methodist University and the George W Bush Presidential Center. It is also known for its attractive homes, beautiful parks, and numerous churches. The location of University Park in north-central Dallas provides easy access to a broad range of cultural, recreational, shopping, and business activities.
A diverse range of more than 7,000 homes supports a unique population base. One of the most highly-educated cities in the nation, 87% of residents over 25 have college or advanced degrees.
The City is served by the Highland Park Independent School District (HPISD). In state testing, HPISD students consistently rank among the highest in the state, with 97% of the graduating class typically continuing on to college.
The City prides itself on providing prompt and personal attention to requests for services. A primary goal of the City is to provide and maintain a secure residential atmosphere and, through a hometown policing approach, the City maintains crime rates among the lowest in the metropolitan area.

The City distributes two monthly newsletters. The Arbor is distributed on the first of the month and includes articles about City services, projects, and events. UPdate is distributed on the 15th of the month and includes news briefs and reminders on a variety of topics by department. The Parks Department and UP Public Library also distribute monthly newsletters containing upcoming events, reminders and department-specific information.

Businesses
Snider Plaza opened in 1927 and remains a thriving retail shopping center in the heart of University Park. Located at the corner of Hillcrest and Lovers Lane, its shops and restaurants receive high accolades from citizens and visitors alike. Preston Center, located at the corner of Preston Road and Northwest Highway, boasts upscale boutiques and fine dining establishments. There are also many wonderful shops and eateries located along Preston Road near Lovers Lane, on Lovers Lane near the Tollway and by Southern Methodist University (SMU) on Mockingbird.
Churches
Located throughout the City, the seven religious institutions within University Park are some of the most beautiful and well attended in the nation. Highland Park United Methodist Church and Highland Park Presbyterian Church were the homes of the largest congregations in the nation in the 1980's and maintain some of the most well-attended services for their faiths.
